Biggs Cardosa Associates is Awarded Two 2018 ACEC Honor Awards for Engineering Excellence
Biggs Cardosa's Santa Clara Pedestrian Underpass Extension won the ACEC California 2018 Engineering Excellence Award in the Structural Systems category. Biggs Cardosa was contracted by the Valley Transit Authority as the prime consultant to provide the engineering design for the underpass, which extends an existing pedestrian underpass below Caltrain tracks and three Union Pacific Railroad tracks to connect to Brokaw Road to the east via a new open-air ramp walkway. The underpass improves public transit access, enhances safety, and knits together two parts of the city. The project was delivered on time and under budget.
Biggs Cardosa's East Campbell Portals project won the ACEC California 2018 Engineering Excellence Award in the Structural Systems category. Biggs Cardosa was contracted by the City of Campbell as the prime consultant to provide engineering design for the project. The widened pedestrian portals improve pedestrian and bicycle access under Highway 17 while enhancing safety and knitting together a previously divided part of the City. The portals act as a gateway to the historic downtown and serve as a model for other communities with similar pedestrian access challenges caused by elevated bin type highway structures.
