The first museum in the United States to focus exclusively on quilts and textiles as an art form, the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2007. In late 2003, the Museum partnered with East Bay venture philanthropists and formed a Limited Liability Corporation (LLC) to purchase and renovate a historic building to give the museum a permanent home. Biggs Cardosa Associates provided structural engineering services to retrofit the 13,000 sf structure, originally built in 1923. The museum serves as an anchor institution in the burgeoning arts and entertainment district known as SoFA, the southern gateway to downtown San Jose.
