BART Richmond R Line Seismic RetrofitBiggs Cardosa is acting as the Structures Leader on the seismic retrofit of the Richmond (R-Line) Segment. The project is part of BART’s $1.3 billion voter-approved retrofit program. The segment includes six structures, three of which are long, multi-span viaduct-type structures. The longest of these viaducts is the El Cerrito-Albany Aerial Guideway, which spans from Berkeley, across both Albany and El Cerrito, and into Richmond. It is over 21,000 feet long. |

BART Rockridge Station Seismic RetrofitBiggs Cardosa is designing the seismic retrofit of the structure for both a safety and operability criteria as defined by BART for the Earthquake Safety Program. The existing Rockridge BART Station was built in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. Retrofits for the project include column casing, footing strengthening, and an isolation detail to avoid damage to the access structures when the main structure displaces under earthquake excitation. The secondary structural components are being evaluated with ASCE 31 for an immediate occupancy criterion, and retrofitted in accordance with FEMA 356. |
