Bridges at Eagle Ridge

The Eagle Ridge Bridge project consists of the design of three new bridges. This project is located in a gated community developed by Shapell Industries. Each bridge accommodates two lanes and a five-foot sidewalk. All these bridges carry utilities, including; water mains, gas, electrical, telephone, and cable television. Special attention was given to the environmental sensitivity of the site during the design to locate the intermediate supports during construction of the bridges. As structural design consultant, Biggs Cardosa was responsible for the bridge design and for the construction support services.

Bridgeway Lakes Development

Biggs Cardosa was responsible for the design of over 14,000 feet of bulkhead retaining wall around the lake perimeter, eight headwall structures, several utility outfall structures, two reinforced concrete box culverts, and a bridge structure. The Southport Parkway Bridge crosses over a channel connecting the two man-made lakes. The bridge incorporates significant aesthetic features, including an arched soffit profile, stone veneering along the outside surfaces of the structure, a structure approach slab with a stamped asphaltic overlay, and a precast balustrade barrier railing with stone veneering.

Plaza Bridge at Marine Way

As part of a design-build contract for a new corporate headquarters for Broadcom, Biggs Cardosa was lead designer for two structures over Marine Way that provide pedestrian and vehicular connectivity between the buildings. The multi-disciplinary design team included architects, landscape architects, electrical engineers and lighting designers, waterproofing consultants, fire protection analysts and civil engineers. Plaza Bridge is a 400-foot wide, three-span bridge that covers Marine Way and supports a park with pedestrian paths that bring together the two halves of the campus. The bridge super structure was designed for unusually high applied loads resulting from the soil and trees of the park above. The design incorporated a waterproof membrane on the bridge deck and drainage features to control irrigation water.
