Huntington Beach BridgesThe City of Huntington Beach, CA has adopted a strategic plan to complete the maintenance activities for all the City-maintained bridges. Biggs Cardosa was selected as prime consultant for the assessment and rehabilitation of seven City owned bridges. Biggs Cardosa is the prime consultant for the assessment and rehabilitation of seven bridges. In addition to design services, Biggs Cardosa is assisting the City with updating and maintaining the Bridge Preventive Maintenance Program (BPMP). Close coordination with Caltrans is essential in obtaining federal funding as well as prioritizing future City bridge work. |

Merced Bridges (BPMP)In 2012, Biggs Cardosa was contracted by the City of Merced as a prime consultant for the development of the City’s first Bridge Preventative Maintenance Program (BPMP). The BPMP includes site investigation and evaluation, as well as providing information vital for the acquisition of funding and cooperation from Caltrans. The two bridges chosen were decided by having the most critical needs, and were therefore investigated and evaluated. They were the M Street Bridge, a single span slab bridge, and the G Street Bridge, a three span T-girder bridge. |

Niles Canyon RailwayBiggs Cardosa provided technical assistance to the Pacific Locomotive Association (PLA) as part of an on-going effort toward having bridges along the Alameda County Niles Canyon Transportation Corridor inspected and evaluated for structural integrity and adequacy to continue train service along this well preserved portion of the First Transcontinental Railroad. The structural scope of work included field reviews and a structural assessment of five bridge structures over 100 years old along the Corridor. The detailed structural report included the assessment of the existing structural conditions, calculated load ratings, identified any potential issues related to train operations and provided maintenance and rehabilitation recommendations with associated conceptual costs. |

Pleasanton Bridges (BPMP)Biggs Cardosa was the prime consultant for the development of the City of Pleasanton’s City-wide Transportation Structure Assets Management Program and Implementation of the program for the City’s 2013 through 2016 fiscal years. This city-wide program has the objective of performing both Preliminary Engineering (PE) and Construction Engineering (CE) for 7 bridges identified by Caltrans. This contract also includes development and annual updates of a city-wide Transportation Structures Asset Management Program. The scope of this program includes the inventory, inspection, evaluation, and maintenance of all structures of a specific diameter or span within the city limits. |

Santa Cruz Branch LineBiggs Cardosa provided technical assistance to the Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission (SCCRTC) in support of their proposed acquisition from UPRR of the 31-mile long Santa Cruz Branch line between the cities of Pajaro and Davenport. The structural scope of work included field reviews and preliminary structural assessments of all major bridge and culvert structures along the Branch Line. The Branch Line includes a total of twenty-nine (29) Railroad Bridge Crossings consisting of a total of thirty-eight (38) separate Railroad Bridge Structures. As the SCCRTC/UPRR acquisition process extended several years, Biggs Cardosa was again retained by the SCCRTC to provide capital and maintenance cost escalation estimates to support the SCCRTC in their negotiations with UPRR.
