SunPower Headquarters

SunPower Corporation is a global leader in the design and manufacture of solar panels. Biggs Cardosa teamed with Chicago-based architect Valerio Dewalt Train Associates to design the new headquarters offices and research facility for SunPower in San Jose. The project involved transforming three existing single-story concrete buildings into an innovative modern space with abundant natural light and design elements that will encourage open collaboration. The project also included unusual interior structures such as the circular free-standing meeting spaces, consisting of inclined glue-laminated timber posts, and a large steel framed entry sign structure that incorporated vertical solar panels. The project achieved LEED Gold Certification.

Synaptics Building Campus

Biggs Cardosa performed the structural design for various tenant improvements to the 3-building campus. Scope of work included the structural support of multiple 35-foot tall freestanding entry structures, walkway trellises, and a new curtain wall system. Additionally, a complete seismic study was conducted on all three buildings to present various retrofit schemes to the owner with the intent of improving the performance of the buildings. One of the buildings, formerly a high-bay warehouse constructed of tilt-up concrete, was converted into a 2-story office building by upgrading the footings and adding a new floor of steel framing. The warehouse building was also seismically retrofitted to meet the requirements of the current California Building Code. Photos Courtesy of CAS Architects.

865 The Alameda

865 The Alameda, which is approximately 16,000 sf, was originally constructed in the late 1920's and its first use was as a Packard Motor Car dealership. In 2007 Biggs Cardosa was hired to prepare contract documents for the rehabilitation of the building into an office. The structural work included a seismic retrofit of the structure, construction of full tenant improvements and restoring the exterior of the building to its original look by refurbishing the exterior light fixtures, reproducing and replacing missing tile, installing a new door and window transom to match the original and the creation and installation of missing cast stone features over the front doors and showroom windows. This project received the prestigious Gold Nugget “Grand Honor “ Award in the category of Best Rehabilitation Commercial/Industrial Project and the American Society of Interior Designers - Gold Award for Adaptive Re-Use for the beautiful restoration of our San Jose office building.
