Construction Management Job Openings

Biggs Cardosa is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer with varying levels of experience for projects in our Orange County Office. The following functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed functions and/or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.


Responsibilities

  • • Provides overall field contract administration and coordination on transportation projects involving bridges, walls, roadways, landscape, utilities, lighting, traffic and traffic signals
  • • Provide oversight of all assigned staff to determine that contractor's construction activities are monitored and controlled in accordance with design specifications and contractual requirements
  • • Build trusted relationships with management team and client’s counterpart staff
  • • Coordinate and manage inspectors
  • • Strong report-writing, communication and managerial skills
  • • Coordinate with contractors and third parties, and resolve field problems in timely fashion.
  • • Expeditiously determine merit and negotiate construction change orders and develop an effective defense against construction claims
  • • Maintain photographic records (clearly labeled and identified) of all work on project before, during, and after construction
  • • Oversee materials testing activities
  • • Review daily inspection reports and other project documentation
  • • Attend and possibly lead construction meetings with client and contractors


Qualifications

  • • PE Required
  • • Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering or Construction Management preferred)
  • • 5+ years of experience in construction inspection or management on infrastructure construction projects (highway/roadway)
  • • Able to perform inspection on site
  • • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • • Must have exceptional ability to read plans and specifications
  • • Ability to read and understand construction schedules
  • • Must maintain quality control at project site
  • • Strong computer skills including competency in Microsoft Office

Biggs Cardosa is seeking Construction Inspectors with varying levels of experience for projects in our Orange County Office. The following functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed functions and/or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.


Responsibilities

  • • Inspect projects such as grading and paving, sewers, storm drains, traffic signals, striping, landscaping & irrigation; and other city construction projects on a routine basis; determine quantities and prepare progress and final estimates for public agency construction projects.
  • • Check plans and specifications for conformance to public agency specifications; determine acceptability of materials; ensure that utility companies have been contacted and permits applied for; confirm accuracy of As-Built documents.
  • • Assure survey staking on capital construction projects is coordinated in advance.
  • • Arrange for field and laboratory testing of concrete, rock base, asphalt and other materials; evaluate results of tests.
  • • Coordinate the scheduling of work between contractors, outside agencies, consultants, various City/County departments, other projects, and City activities and events.
  • • Review and provide input on potential change order issues
  • • Prepare and maintain diaries of daily inspections and records for contracted construction projects, including payment quantities, labor compliance, testing results, materials, and required related records by regulatory agencies; maintain and assist in preparing project folders; assist in the preparation of final reports to funding sources.


Qualifications

  • • 5+ years of experience in construction inspection on infrastructure construction projects (highway/roadway)
  • • General knowledge of reading plans, specifications, and schedules
  • • Knowledge of CALTRANS Standard Plans, Standard Specifications, and Construction Manual.
  • • Flexible schedule (should be able to work nights and weekends when required)
  • • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation
  • • General computer skills, including Microsoft Office
