Via Del Oro Overhead (LRT) on Route 85Biggs Cardosa was the Prime Consultant and Structural Engineer for a cut-and-cover tunnel approximately 45 feet wide and 350 feet long. It was constructed as a cast-in-place, concrete rigid frame, strutted at the foundation level. Due to significant potential construction scheduling constraints, the structure was also designed using precast concrete slabs to accommodate temporary support of the LRT electrification system. The structure is supported on 24-foot tall concrete abutment walls founded on precast concrete piles. Substantial settlement was anticipated for the surrounding area due to the height of fills, significantly impacting the structure detailing and construction scheduling. |
